Meet Eric

Eric Burnette is a long-time resident of Oregon’s 2nd Congressional district. He has deep roots in the Hood River community where he was a volunteer firefighter and helped build Hood River’s Children’s Park.

A California Maritime Academy graduate with over 30 years of experience in the maritime industry, he brings practical, real world- experience to this race. The maritime profession taught Eric the practical value of things that work the way they should; the value of unions in protecting workers’ wages, benefits, and safety; and the importance of fair global trade.

From 2007 to 2014, Eric worked as a Senior Waterways Planner for the Port of Portland. He planned and funded key infrastructure projects NW grain farmers use to sell their crops on the global market.

From 2014 to 2017 he was the appointed Executive Director of the Oregon Board of Maritime Pilots. He was responsible for regulating training, tariffs, and licensing every commercial ship pilot in Oregon.

Eric has two grown sons and lives in Hood River with his wife Jill and their dog Ruby.
